This little church of St Nicholas gives divine protection for those who sail out into the Sea of Crete. It is on a rock formation 100 m into the sea. The walk to the church can be quite difficult on days like the one depicted in the painting. The winds can soon whip up the sea and send waves crashing over the narrow walkway.
